Auggie Pullman was born with a rare medical condition that caused severe facial deformities, and he has undergone numerous surgeries throughout his life. Because of his appearance, he has been homeschooled by his mother, but as he reaches fifth grade, his parents decide it’s time for him to attend a regular school, Beecher Prep.

The story follows Auggie’s journey as he faces the challenges of fitting in at school, where his appearance causes fear, curiosity, and sometimes cruelty from his classmates. As Auggie struggles with bullying and isolation, he also experiences moments of kindness, friendship, and self-discovery. The book is narrated from multiple perspectives, including those of Auggie, his older sister Via, and some of his friends and classmates, which provides insight into how Auggie’s condition impacts those around him.

Throughout the novel, Auggie proves that true beauty lies in kindness, courage, and the ability to accept others despite their differences. As he learns to navigate his social challenges, Auggie teaches those around him important lessons about empathy, acceptance, and the power of choosing kindness over prejudice.

Wonder is ultimately a celebration of humanity, focusing on the importance of seeing beyond physical appearances and recognizing the value of every person. It encourages readers to be compassionate and understanding, and to always "choose kind." The novel has resonated with readers of all ages, becoming a widely praised and impactful story about love, acceptance, and the strength of the human spirit.
