To sleep in a sea of stars - Christopher Paolini
The story is set in the distant future, where humanity has spread out across the stars and established colonies on various planets. Kira Navárez, the protagonist, is a xenobiologist working on a mission to explore a distant moon. While studying alien life forms, Kira unexpectedly stumbles upon an ancient and mysterious alien artifact—a relic from a long-forgotten species. The artifact, which seems benign at first, soon reveals itself to be something much more dangerous and powerful than anyone could have anticipated.
As Kira comes into contact with the artifact, she unwittingly unleashes a sequence of events that threatens not only her life but the lives of countless others. The artifact merges with her body, granting her abilities that she doesn't fully understand, including newfound physical powers and a deep connection to an unknown alien intelligence. This event sets off a chain of conflict, as different factions and species seek to control the artifact and its mysterious power.
Kira's journey becomes one of survival, exploration, and discovery, as she grapples with the artifact's influence on her body and mind. Along the way, she must navigate the political and military conflicts between humans and alien races, particularly a deadly and ancient alien species called the Xen'kai, who have their own designs on the artifact. As the universe around her spirals into chaos, Kira must decide whether to use the artifact's power to save humanity or risk everything to keep its secrets hidden.
Her journey takes her across planets, through space battles, and into the depths of alien worlds, all while she uncovers long-buried truths about the universe and its hidden histories. As Kira learns more about the artifact and its connection to ancient alien civilizations, she must confront difficult moral choices and face the consequences of wielding such immense power.
